Computer Science | Software Developer
In 2020, I graduated with a B.Tech (Hons.) degree in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur. Since June 2020, I have been working at D.E.Shaw India Pvt. Ltd., where I have been working at mutiple quantitative and software development projects. The domains of my projects revolve around software development, probability and statistics, machine learning and operating systems. I am particularly interested in exploring systems and networks, specially discovering the way how ML can change the way systems work.
June 2020 - Present
Working on a variety of quantitative software development projects, ranging from database management, operating systems, developing live monitors and statistical libraries to developing financial models using machine learning and statistics.

As a part of the project, we developed an end-to-end viewport-adaptive 360-degree video streaming system using state-of-the-art viewport prediction model. This model can predict the future viewport of the user (that is where the user would look next) and send that part of the 360-degree frame at higher quality and rest of it at lower quality. This would improve Quality of Experience (QoE) and reduce bandwidth consumption.
Here are some procedures involved:
- We exploited video contents in terms of object trajectories derived using a robust spherical object tracking algorithm. Our claim was that the viewport of the user depends upon the trajectory of the prime objects in the video along with the past viewport.
- We designed a unique augmentation of Passive-Aggressive Regression and ARIMA time-series models for viewport prediction. We implemented the model to be online in nature, adaptive to user preferences dynamically and effective for streaming.
- We compared the model performance with state-of-the-art baselines and observed an improvement of QoE by over 30%. We proved that our video streaming system is superior than the baselines through a variety of experimentation results.
May 2019 - July 2019
Worked on the development of a financial model for positioning nine DM currencies using most relevant flow market participants. This was followed by development of an automated live monitor for the designed model, useful to analyse the positioning of various currencies.

As a part of this internship, we developed a software using optimised algorithms to automatically extract small clips involving car accidents from youtube videos using algorithmic methods instead of Machine Learning. The mined data was supposed to be used as dataset of car accident video clips for training the autonomous driving model at ITRI.
- First, we prepared a full-fledged video crawling tool that can scrape videos from youtube based upon the search query and preferred search filters input by the user. We used the developed tool to crawl car accident videos from youtube.
- Since the dataset specifically requires dashcam videos for training, we then devised algorithms to filter dashcam videos, followed by detecting various objects in the videos.
- We developed a robust algorithm to detect collisions between cars using the objects detected in 2-dimensional video frames.

Delhi Government's Mentorship Program
As a part of the program, I am mentoring four Delhi Government high-school students explore their career aspirations and develop their career trajectories. The weekly meetings with the students help them take a step-by-step approach towards career exploration.

Collaborative Social Entrepreneurship Project, Enactus CVS and Enactus SGTB Khalsa
The project emanated from my desire to help people during the pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic erupted when I was in college, and I struggled to get a mask and sanitizer, that too at exorbitant prices due to high demand. I realized that I was privileged to afford expensive products despite the struggle, but people who are losing their jobs cannot afford them. I used the knowledge from my entrepreneurship course to develop this idea, where we could provide employment to some people and simultaneously help financially struggling families obtain safety kits at low prices. We employed five women in preparation of safety kits, and took orders for low-cost good-quality safety kits from across India. I was able to lead a team of over 25 students in the project, learn more about social entrepreneurship, put my theoretical knowledge to practice, and help various people.

IIT Kharagpur
I mentored seven students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, 2018 batch. I was responsible for guiding them in their academic and extra-academic issues, along with providing them necessary guidance for securing internships.
I also volunteered to teach students during the PDS doubt clearing sessions for first years who had not studied Computer Science during their high school. In these sessions, I resolved the doubts of ten first year students and helped them to understand topics like pointers, linked lists and arrays, which are typically hard for beginners to understand.

Student Media Body of IIT Kharagpur
My personal motive to join the organisation was to promote constructive journalism . My definition of the term is that any project that we work on as a media body should have one of two motives:
- Promulgating important and useful positive information to the students
- If we are reporting something negative or something that needs to be improved in the campus, we should ensure that the relevant suggestions reach to the administration and are implemented by them, if feasible.
In order to implement the same, I took various personal initiatives, few examples include:
- Enforcement of Proposal Updates: During student elections, each candidate puts forward a set of proposals that he/she would implement if elected. I led the project of making the elected Student Council accountable to all the students by scrutinizing over and interviewing them for the progress on the proposals
- Basic Amenities: We conducted a survey among the students to ask them about the various problems that they face regarding basic amenities like canteens, water coolers, street lights, stationery shops etc. in order to find out where these amenities need to be improved in the campus. We reached out to the administration with the results of the survey putting forward the student needs, and appropriate actions were taken by the administration to resolve them.

Annual School Magazine
As a part of the team, I worked in designing the structure and editing various articles, English as well as Hindi, for the School Magazine for 2014-15, NEPS Milestones. I was awarded a proficiency certificate by the school for the exemplary work done in the publication of the magazine.
